NEW BETHLEHEM — In a match filled with pins and forfeits with no exceptions, it was the Redbank Valley Bulldogs who pulled away with a 60-24 win over Punxsutawney Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs won four of the match’s five forfeits to start the night, then outpinned the Chucks 6-3 in the remaining nine bouts to finish the match.

That put the Bulldogs’ record at 6-2 going into Thursday’s match at Warren. Next week, they head to Brockway Tuesday and Ridgway Thursday.

Josh Smith, Mason Songer, Brayden Altobelli and Hunter Martz accepted forfeit wins from 113 through 132 to start the match before the Bulldogs gave up six points at 138.

Then the pins started — six of the nine bouts were first-period pins — as the Bulldogs and Chucks traded six-pointers from 145 through 182.

Caleb Snyder pinned the Chucks’ Zach May 37 seconds into the second period at 145 before the Chucks’ Stone Smith needed 59 seconds to pin Coltin Bartley at 152.

The Bulldogs answered at 160 when Bryan Layton pinned the Chucks’ Caleb Bender in 1:04 before the Chucks’ Garret Eddy ended Hudson Martz’s night in 24 seconds at 170.

From there, the Bulldogs won four of the final five bouts. Kobe Bonanno decked the Chucks’ Hunter Perry after building a 9-0 lead 35 seconds in the third period at 182. Logan Minich decked the Chucks’ Tristen Bair in 75 seconds at 195.

At 220, Aiden Gardner went into the second period trailing the Chucks’ Jacob Shuckers’ 2-0 but he took Shuckers down and pinned him in 2:47.

The Chucks’ final win came at heavyweight when Alex Neal, ranked No. 15 in the state in Class 3A, pinned the Bulldogs’ Owen Shaffer in 48 seconds.

Wrapping up the night, the Bulldogs’ Trenton Rupp inned Jacob Good in 74 seconds at 106.

NOTES: The Chucks fell to 1-8 ... Altobelli (14-2), Songer (13-5) and Gardner (13-4) lead the Bulldogs in wins with Minich hiking his record to 10-1 with his sixth pin. ... While no Bulldog made the latest state rankings, a few made the Northwest Regional rankings. The Northwest Region is made up of District 9 and 10 with the districts combining to send four wrestlers to states in each of the 14 weight classes. It’s a good indicator of standing within the region: Rupp No. 8 at 106 and Altobelli No. 8 at 120.
