Midlands Championships

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — The Clarion University wrestling team heads to this weekend’s 55th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships hosted by Northwestern University.

Action gets started Friday and continues through Saturday.

After the holiday break, the Golden Eagles are back in action with four dual meets Jan. 7 in Greenvale, N.Y., on Long Island — Hofstra, Columbia, UNC-Pembroke and Long Island-Post.

Slippery Rock women

travel to Seton Hill

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University women’s basketball team takes a 6-4 overall record into Saturday’s PSAC-West matchup at Seton Hill.

The Rock, 4-1 in conference play, have won two straight games. They’re tied with Pitt-Johnstown in conference play behind a three-way first-place tie between Edinboro, IUP and California.

Redbank Valley’s Brooke Hinderliter is averaging 15.8 points and a team-best 6.7 rebounds per game for the Rock. Her .891 free-throw percentage (49-for-55) ranks fourth in the PSAC with teammate Ciara Patterson (.900) in second. Her .444 field goal percentage is 14th in the PSAC.

Keystone graduate Madison Johnson is third on the team in scoring at 10.9 points per game. Karns City’s LeeAnn Gibson is averaging 4.8 points off the bench.

Slippery Rock visits Clarion Jan. 10.
