Shaffer, Bish at PAJW Jr. High Tourney

JOHNSTOWN — Two Redbank Valley junior high wrestlers — Dalton Bish and Kristopher Shaffer — wrestled at last weekend’s Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Championships at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

Kristopher Shaffer went 2-2 at 132 pounds while Dalton Bish went 1-2 at 117 pounds.

Shaffer started the tournament with two straight wins — a 2-0 decision over Wyatt Schmucker of Latrobe and an 8-3 sudden victory win over Saegertown’s Landon Caldwell.

Then Shaffer was pinned by North Allegheny’s Grant MacKay in the quarterfinals. MacKay went on to win the title, going 5-0.

In the consolations one win away from a top-eight medal finish, Shaffer dropped a 3-2 decision to Norwin’s eventual fifth-placer Chase Kranitz.

Bish won his opener in a 5-3 decision over Somerset’s Ethan Hemminger, but lost his next two in a 4-0 decision to Cathedral Prep’s Caleb Canavan and a 5-1 decision to West Chester Rustin’s Marek Seaman.

Among Area 5 teams, Clearfield wound up tied for seventh in the team standings with four top-eight medal finishers — Oliver Billotte and Mark McGonigal with fourth-place finishes and Nick Domico and Nolan Barr in eighth place.

DuBois’ Kolby Franklin won the title at 212 pounds, going 5-0.
