NEW BETHLEHEM — It’s another dual-meet format for this year’s Redbank Valley Christmas Tournament.

The Bulldogs are among 16 wrestling teams scheduled to wrestle five matches apiece.

Action gets started at 9 a.m. For the Bulldogs, they’ll open the first session (1A) against Conneaut, Mercer (2A), Marion Center (3A), Slippery Rock (4A) and Youngsville (5A).

Other teams in the event are Kane, Brockway, Clarion, Punxsutawney, Curwensville, Keystone, Smethport and Oswayo Valley from D9 along with Blairsville of D6 and Brashear of D8.

The entire schedule is listed below. Both gymnasiums will be used:

Round 1A: Redbank Valley vs. Conneaut, Brockway vs. Mercer, Kane vs. Marion Center and Blairsville vs. Slippery Rock.

Round 1B: Clarion vs. Youngsville, Curwensville vs. Punxsutawney, Smethport vs. Keystone, Oswayo Valley vs. Brashear.

Round 2A: Redbank Valley vs. Mercer, Brockway vs. Marion Center, Kane vs. Slippery Rock, Blairsville vs. Youngsville.

Round 2B: Clarion vs. Punxsutawney, Curwensville vs. Keystone, Smethport vs. Brashear, Oswayo Valley vs. Conneaut.

Round 3A: Redbank Valley vs. Marion Center, Brockway vs. Slippery Rock, Kane vs. Youngsville, Blairsville vs. Punxsutawney.

Round 3B: Clarion vs. Keystone, Curwensville vs. Brashear, Smethport vs. Conneaut, Oswayo Valley vs. Mercer.

Round 4A: Redbank Valley vs. Slippery Rock, Brockway vs. Youngsville, Kane vs. Punxsutawney, Blairsville vs. Keystone.

Round 4B: Clarion vs. Brashear, Curwensville vs. Conneaut, Smethport vs. Mercer, Oswayo Valley vs. Marion Center.

Round 5A: Redbank Valley vs. Youngsville, Brockway vs. Punxsutawney, Kane vs. Keystone, Blairsville vs. Brashear.

Round 5B: Clarion vs. Conneaut, Curwensville vs. Mercer, Smethport vs. Marion Center, Oswayo Valley vs. Slippery Rock.

RANKINGS — In the latest Class 2A wrestling rankings, 25 D9 wrestlers are ranked, but none are Bulldogs.

Those ranked in the top 10 include Smethport’s Bryent Johnson, 7th at 106; Brockway’s Anthony Glasl, 6th at 126; Brookville’s Kai Sorbin, 10th at 132; Bradford’s Tyler Thompson and Ridgway’s Lukas McClain, 3rd and 6th at 138; Brookville’s Caleb Hetrick, 5th at 152; Kane’s Aiden Hulings, 6th at 160; Port Allegany’s Jacob Kallenborn, 6th at 170; Brookville’s Xavier Molnar, 5th at 195; Brookville’s Tyler Cook, 10th at 220; and Curwensville’s Steve McClure, 5th at heavyweight.

In’s Northwest Regional rankings, the Bulldogs’ Brayden Altobelli is ranked No. 8 at 120. The Northwest Regional, consisting of District 9 and 10, sends its top four finishers to states, so the rankings serve as a rough idea where a wrestler fits into the state berth picture.
