CORSICA — The legacy began by David Leadbetter in Corsica nearly 60 years ago will continue to serve the community under new ownership.

Leadbetter passed on December 10, 2021, but his family wants to “assure everyone the business will still be running.”

His wife, Sandy, said “Dave started as a one-man show,” opening Leadbetter Auto Body in 1964. When he opened his new business, “he started out strictly as auto body repair.”

Six years later he added Dave Leadbetter Towing to his business and in the early 80s “went into the large wrecker business. He spent many days and nights on the interstate, over the years building a fleet of heavy duty wreckers and equipment,” his grandson, Jacob Leadbetter said.

As the business continued to grow, so did his staff. “At one time he had 11 employees, serving the area from Emlenton to Clearfield,” Leadbetter said, “and developed a good working relationship with area law enforcement.”

Granddaughter Kelsey Makin said, “the auto body shop also serviced several insurance companies and individuals.

“He was definitely a man of many projects. His challenge was to create a new vehicle or piece of equipment, and collect antique cars,” she said.

Not only did Dave Leadbetter serve his community as a businessman, he “truly enjoyed supporting his community in many ways. He was a lifetime member of the Corsica

Volunteer Fire Department and had served a mayor for many years. He especially enjoyed getting the kids from the community involved in the Fourth of July parade,” Makin said.

In September Leadbetter began the steps necessary to change ownership of the business, offering it to Chase Leadbetter, who had worked for him since he was in high school.

“Chase came to work” for Dave “13 years ago, when he was still in high school,” Makin said. After graduation “he went to technical school and came back. He became Dave’s right-hand man, and it was his dream that Chase would take over the business.”

Under the new ownership “everything in the auto body shop will stay the same, and he will retain the medium and light-duty towing services,” she said.

Although ownership of the business has changed, at Leadbetter’s Auto Body in Corsica, it will continue to be “business as usual.”
